I’ve decided to go with a new brand for “All Things Bwana”. A lot of you are probably familiar with my cartoonme avatar as my personal brand, but I decided to change that up. I wanted something simple and easy to recognize, so I opened Pixelmator and typed a giant “B” and worked around that. I’m no graphics expert but I think it’s a good brand to move forward with. It represents all the various things I do.

There was a lot of confusion since I had a Bwana.org brand, a Bwana.TV brand and a Bwana.org Radio brand. This new brand will be everywhere and will represent it all. If you see the giant B, know that it’s me

As some of you know, I’ve been producing an audio podcast, Bwana.org Radio, since 2005. I’ve had a lot of fun doing it and what started as a hobby, turned into something that people really enjoy. This is why it saddens me to inform my listeners that I will no longer be producing Bwana.org Radio as of episode #250.

Why am I doing this? Time. I simply don’t have it.

I’ve given this a lot of thought. I’ve been experimenting with various formats for my video show, Bwana.TV, and have polled my users for their preferences. As a result, I’m going to continue producing content that was on Bwana.org Radio, but in a different format. There won’t be an audio only format and it won’t be 20-40 minutes in length. Instead, I will produce shorter videos on the same content, kind of like my “Story of the day” experiment I conducted on Youtube a few months ago.

I thank all of you who have supported me by subscribing to my audio podcast, by downloading the episodes, which have given me the funds to pay for web hosting and even conduct a few giveaways. The time has come to change, and I look forward to it.

You may have noticed that I haven’t blogged in a while. If you didn’t, then it’s true. My last blog post is from December 2009. That’s last year man! I’ve been lacking motivation to do new media all around. The only schedule I’ve been keeping up with is my audio podcast, Bwana.org Radio. My videos have decreased tremendously since I sold my Canon Powershot TX1 (no more closeup videos since). I tried an experiment with Story of the Day which got decent response, but I’m not sure if I want to continue with it.

I wouldn’t necessarily call it writer’s block. It’s more like content creator’s block. I’m in the process of evaluating if I should continue in the way things are or change things up to meet my new demands in life. Either way, something’s got to change.

But seriously, I’m selling a bunch of stuff so I can raise enough funds to upgrade my main PC to a powerhouse that is able to do High definition (HD) videos, HD live streaming, and expand my other projects.

2. HP Mini 1035NR [specs] [pic] w/ 2GB RAM – This is my little baby I’m sad to see it go, but sacrifices must be made. I’ll have to make due with my iPhone. Asking $250 USD OBO
3. Canon Powershot TX1 720p Camera [specs] – This is the camera I use for my 200+ Youtube videos (most of which are in high definition). It’s a great little camera, and I’m sad to part with it, but I can utilize my Canon HV20 for most of the same tasks and I need to cash for a new PC. Asking $120 USD OBO
4. Canon Digital Rebel XT DSLR 8MP Camera BODY [specs] – What started as an (expensive) hobby has fallen to the wayside. Sacrifices must be made. Goodbye Photography Asking $300 USD OBO
5. Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens [specs] – My super lens. This thing is AWESOME. It takes great wide angle shots both indoors and out. It’s a “red stripe” lens so it’s pretty hefty. My most expensive piece of photography equipment. Asking $400 OBO
6. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens [specs] – The bestest, cheapest lens you’ll find for a Canon DSLR. Great for beginning photographers. It takes great photos. Asking $30 OBO

All items are operational and I use them today. All sales are final and items will be sold as-is. No refunds. (Sorry, I’m so strict, but some people want to scam)

Welcome to the new Bwana.org (DNS changes still propagating). For months I’ve been putting up with sporadic uptime due to increased traffic and an overworked virtual private server at Dreamhost. I’ve switched providers to Mosso (The Rackspace Cloud), and am utilizing their Cloud Sites product. Yes, this is a more expensive solution than what I’m currently paying at Dreamhost, but I’m a big believer in “you get what you pay for”. I considered a lot more options out there and what drew me to Mosso was it’s great reputation and scaling solution. I also had a good conversation with Robert La Gesse of Mosso who took the time to answer a lot of my questions. As a result of the more expensive solution, I’m opening up advertising on my sites for anyone interested. Email me for more information.

We’ll see how things go here at Mosso, and I hope you all enjoy the new look and feel. I figured since I’m moving from a long time relationship with Dreamhost (since 2005!), I’d accompany it with a new look and feel. Gather around children.

One day in October 2007, I was driving home from getting dinner and when I entered our community, I noticed an “Available” sign on a nice home on a corner lot near the entrance. I quickly stopped, wrote down the phone number and went home. I told my wife about it and she had an idea of the house I was talking about. Little did we know, this was our future.

I called the number from the sign and made an appointment to view the house with the agent. The next day, I viewed the house and took many pictures and videos for my wife. After talking about it, we decided we should pursue it. I called Bank of America that moment and got pre-approved for a home loan. Things were looking really really good, until I checked my current lease. I had 6 months left on my current rental and I saw something that I did not want to see. I saw that if I broke the lease, I would have to pay rent until another tenant could be found.

Well that’s not good.

I called the agent and told him the situation. I quoted “If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen”. Foreshadowing? Yes. I told my wife “If that’s the house that God has for us, then He’ll make a way”. 2 months pass and I get a knock on the door from the Sheriff’s office. It just so happened the house we were in was in the process of being foreclosed. It just so happened no one told us about it. It just so happened we were pretty shocked. So now, we have to find a place to move to and quickly. Wait a minute, can’t we get out of our lease now?? I immediately called the lease agency and sure enough, foreclosure kind of supersedes the earlier clause we dreaded. So now we were free and clear to find whatever we wanted. It just so happened the house we wanted was still available. So to make a long story short, we looked around in Tampa a bit but ended up deciding on the house we thought we lost. I put in an offer, it was accepted, and we closed on Dec 31st.

We are home owners. Thank you God.

Many of you have been asking what’s been going on with me over the past 2 weeks. My sparse twitter and facebook status updates have been related to hospitals so a few people assumed I was sick. It’s not me that’s sick, it’s my wife. She has been diagnosed with a form of cancer called Hodgkin’s disease.

Yeah. Cancer.

At first I was shocked by the news too, but with many hours of prayer, family love and support, here we are living life to the fullest. My wife has a positive prognosis since Hodgkin’s disease has an extremely high cure rate. After two chemotherapy sessions, she has already made drastic improvements. I’ve been staying with her at the hospital and working while I’m here (working from home has its advantages). So there it is folks, that’s what’s been happening. If you wish to help, donate to the American Cancer Society. It’s because of organizations like this that Hodgkin’s disease is curable.

braytek.com is undergoing some changes and i felt i should share these with my readers so that when they happen, you won’t be caught off-guard:

• site breakout – with the formation of braytek,llc recently, i will be moving my blog to a different subdomain, probably something like blog.braytek.com. my podcast will most likely get its own subdomain as well.
• feed url changes – as a result of the site shuffle, some feed urls may change. i will handle the podcasting side pretty easily, but those of you subscribing to www.braytek.com/feed/… will probably not be able to use that url anymore. stay tuned. (i know, i hate changing feed urls)
• braytek,llc will be the focus of www.braytek.com and it will be strictly business. stay tuned for its release and details.
• braytek podcast might need a name change. in order to avoid confusion of what braytek stands for, the podcast may get an overhaul for naming. stay tuned.
