This is pretty much the route I'm going. I made the mistake of trying to use Twitter as a facet of my oraganization system and it burned me pretty bad. The community aspect of FF is just so much more responsive (for me). Twitter is just a bunch of people talking at me. I rarely get replies there and the useful info I DO get is not unique to Twitter.

Just for the record, I definitely don't hate Twitter. I just don't plan to be very active there.

Bwana, great review... I have been in the technology arena for 11 years now, and have recently found the time and energy to start a blog about those things that I am thinking. I was recommended to find communities and interact.

I did... I found Twitter, which lead me to FriendFeed, which lead me to Plurk, and so on... In an nutshell I found that my productivity has gone down. I have fun using these mediums, but I allowed myself to be consumed by activity of watching them...

I found Twitter is a useful billboard.
I found that FriendFeed is a great meta-aggregator.
I found that Plurk has some geniunely great communities.

... and I have found that the world goes on with or with out my interaction in it - as do these various mediums. As such, I am now refocusing upon what is important to me. Where I'm torn is that I have indeed met enough great people through these mediums I do not think i would be advised to step away. However, they cannot remain a primary source of staying in contact with "the world"...

Great post, Bwana. Very insightful.

A lot of people made this mistake. They made Twitter a mission critical component of their business and it failed them tremendously. I hope for their sake it improves.

Ok, it's time for me to find out what all the fuss is all about with this Twitter/FriendFeed stuff. I had joined Twitter a while back, but never did anything with it. Now I've joined FriendFeed on your recommendation. Seems like this is the best way for me to find out what's going on with you anyway. ;)
