iPhone Update Means Bad News for Custom Apps

In: apple

27 Sep 2007

Hot on the heels of the new iPhone update, natetrue has reported that the new iPhone firmware is indeed encrypted like the iPod touch:

Yo guys, the latest iPhone firmware just came out. I can confirm that it is encrypted like the iPod Touch firmware, and so far no one has cracked it open to view the files. We’re working our hardest on this.

In essence, no custom apps are coming to the new iPhone firmware until this encryption is bypassed. As natetrue has stated, I recommend not upgrading to this firmware if you have used iBrickr, Installer.app, or any other iPhone hacking software. I don’t think an iTunes Wi-Fi Store, and louder speakers are worth losing all those wonderful applications.
