30 Jun 2007Things I want to improve:
1. More applications!!!
2. Proper name handling in dictionary. Suretype learns new terms a bit better.
3. Limited Ringtone support. Currently, can’t add additional ringtones. That’s bad.
4. Need more applications!
5. No IM client
6. Need wallpapers on application launch screen. Plain black..is..plain.
7. Two finger pinching requires pages to be rendered in Safari. I’d like this tweaked a bit more.
8. Need more customization of standby screen (see #6). Along with wallpapers, how about rearranging apps? alternate views? themes?
9. Need more gyro sensing actions. Some things you can flip to landscape, others you can’t. I’d like this to be more consistent
Things I love about it:
1. The screen is gorgeous. Drop dead gorgeous.
2. The phone OS is very Mac OS X like. It’s easy for me to do things. Very intuitive.
3. Mail on the iPhone is very similar to Mail.app on OS X. It’s a good thing.
4. Safari blew me away. Pages render as if they were on desktop. (Sans flash and java)
5. Little things such as the camera shutter animation, close animations, opening animations, are really nice.
6. The iPod feels like a 6G iPod. It’s amazing.
7. I love the placement of the lock, mute and home buttons. It took exactly 1 minute for me to figure it all out.
That’s after about 3-4 hours of playing with it. Look for more detailed information as I use it more.

I’m jealous. Nice initial review. An Open API will get more apps much sooner. That’s what works and pushes sales in pcland

Thanks for the congrats guys. The keyboard feels ok, like I said, I just the wish the proper name handling was a bit better. It also poses a challenge for entering URLs where spelling can be non-traditional. But overall, I like the keyboard and I’m still getting used to it. I was able to thumb type on it pretty fast.
