Twittervision Extends the Twitter Addiction
March 18, 2007
As if Twitter wasn’t addictive enough, Dave Troy goes and creates a fascinating Twitter web application dubbed, Twittervision. What is Twittervision? Technically it’s a mashup of Google Maps and Twitter, but conceptually, it’s a work of genius. It overlays the Twitter Public Timeline on a Google map and automatically updates location markers on the map, giving you a “vision” of “Twitters” around the world.
What fascinates me the most about Twittervision is that it really gives you a glimpse of how widely used Twitter is. As the map glides from Japan, to Hawaii, to Robert Scoble’s pad in California(who’s a frequent Twitter) and back to New York City, you get to see what everyone is doing worldwide. When Dave Troy announced Twittervision, it literally took a couple of hours for the entire Twitter community to catch on and enjoy it. We began singing the praises on irc (#twitter / irc.wyldryde.org) and a majority of people posted updates as how Twitter has “halted their productivity”. They’re not kidding, I’ve been sitting here staring at it for a good hour, before I decided to actually write a post about it. If someone you know isn’t on Twitter or doesn’t “get it”, point them to twittervision.com and give them a glimpse of what’s going on. It’s truly amazing.
Some quick notes, Twittervision crashes the current version of Safari on Macs, but works fine with Firefox and the latest nightly of Safari Webkit. Enjoy!!
