28 Sep 2006I’m sick of it.
Google search for “Apple Quietly”: Approximately 93,000 search results. Folks, this has got to stop. What constitutes a quiet release of anything? In my opinion, it’s putting a release on a server, not tell anyone about it, and run away whistling dixie. Instead, Apple releases something, publishes it on a webpage, most times puts it in Software Update, updates download links, updates the support knowledge base, and they did all of that quietly. Is this a journalism tactic that I don’t know about or is there something else afoot?
Now I know Apple sometimes releases new software and products with a keynote address and/or press release. But when they release an update to iTunes 7.0, Engadget claims they did it quietly. Seriously, what more could Apple have done:
What else is needed? A press release? A bullhorn? A presidential address? Can we please stop the madness and stop claiming Apple is up to no good sneaking around, dropping releases at our door, then running away laughing like Nelson of the Simpsons? Thanks.

So far, I don’t see the appeal of the Zune. Seems there are better alternatives to the iPod than the Zune. If the Zune Marketplace is any good then we may have something.

No appeal?!? Hmm…for me it’s the simplethings. The top item is that I can play music encoded with AAC/MP3/WMA on this one device…not to mention video too in MPEG-4/WMV/H.264 formats. Moving along, the thing has pretty good aesthetics and the screen is both larger and sharper in image than any of Apple’s offerings. Don’t even let me fail to mention that you can view video by leaning the thing on it’s side as well!! The wifi functionality could wipe it’s butt with the iPod if Microsoft chose to implement it properly, but it looks like they won’t so the heck with it. Anyway, those were a few things I like about the Zune. I’ll keep rocking my 8gb Zen MicroPhoto until this baby hits teh stores…
