Apple Releases Dual Booting Solution

In: Default|Noteworthy

Umm.. wow?

On the heels of the wildly popular “challenge” put forth to dual boot MacOS X and Windows XP on Apple’s Intel hardware, Apple has released their “own” solution dubbed, Boot Camp. I didn’t see this coming. I was skeptic about the talk of Apple supporting Virtualization in Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) since rumors are rumors. Now to see a public beta of this solution available now is just stunning. The fact that Apple is providing drivers for their hardware on Windows software means the world is coming to an end. I’m real anxious to see how well their video drivers perform with well, hmmm, let’s see, what was that..oh yeah BATTLEFIELD 2?!?! Dear me oh my, what a development.

More on this later..

I’m also going to give this a try on my iMac Core Duo. It would be sweet to be able to do all my browser testing (I’m a web developer) on one box. And I must admit, it would be great to be able to play a bit of BF2 or HL2 on my iMac.

I’m still in shock. I hope the video drivers are semi-stable. I could dump half the hardware in my office if my MacBook Pro can handle my games.

As could I. I currently have a ShuttlePC for browser testing and a bit of gaming, as well as an old PC stuck in a closet for file-serving. The 500GB HD in my iMac makes the fileserver very unnecessary, and if I can get Windows booting on the iMac, the ShuttlePC can go out the Window as well.

Sweet. Hey Jeff, if you get it up and running, please post some benchmarks of any games you try. I’m sure a lot of people are curious as to the performance of the Intel iMac. I’m going to do the same with my MacBook Pro.

Will do. I plan on trying out Battlefield 2 and if that works out I’ll pick up a copy of HL2 and give that a try as well.
