Add RSS Headlines To Your AIM Profile (via Adium)

Date April 2, 2006

If you’re an Adium user on Mac OS X, then you have the ability to dynamically insert a RSS headline in your AOL Instant Messager (AIM) profile from your favorite feed. Here’s how you do it:

  1. First, visit Adium’s “Xtras” page for the RSS News Headlines Xtra.
  2. Follow the instructions on that page which include installing the XML Tools Scripting Addon
  3. Launch the Adium RSS Reader application and configure it for your favorite RSS feed.
  4. iTunesScreenSnapz002

  5. Update your AIM profile and insert the text “%_rss” for where you want your RSS headline to show
  6. AdiumScreenSnapz001

  7. If everything works, your profile should look like this:
  8. AdiumScreenSnapz002

That’s it! I highly recommend trying some of the other Adium Xtras to spice up your Instant Messaging.
